iscover Épi Baie de Pampelonne on the French Riviera's most iconic bay and Ramatuelle’s most magnificent beach, which has called artists and innovators from Matisse to Picasso, Signac and Dufy to capture its sun-kissed scenes.

Born in 1959—just three years after nearby Club 55 fed the crew of And God Created Woman—Épi started as ten whitewashed cabanas, two turquoise pools and a pair of clay tennis courts hidden behind Pampelonne’s dunes. Within weeks it was the Riviera’s backstage: Bardot bronzing, Gainsbourg crooning, McEnroe practising his serve while paparazzi lenses poked through the tamarisk hedges. The eighties dialled the party down, leaving Épi to snooze in discreet wellness mode until American entrepreneur Frank McCourt bought it in 2018 and polished, rather than reinvented, the midcentury magic. Today there are still fewer than a dozen bungalows, no signage from the road and a private gate straight onto the only stretch of proper sand on the Côte d’Azur. Some places age; Épi just tans.

Stretching down to the legendary sands of Pampelonne Beach, tucked beneath the rugged Riviera hills and a quick skip from Ramatuelle and the historic village of Saint-Tropez, Épi shines – its inimitable scene centers around two glittering turquoise pools, spa and championship clay tennis courts.

With guests limited to those in the nine charming and airy bungalows and cottages, discretion and privacy are as much a given as the warm sun and camaraderie.

For amateurs and legends alike, founded by John McEnroe, Épi’s tennis courts beckon. Clay, of course – when the sun’s not too high in the sky, the muted thud of balls counts time with racing hearts. Épi’s resident coach, in signatures tennis whites, is always ready for a game. Whether training or casual play, lessons are available from sunrise to sunset.

An on-site fitness centre houses state-of-the-art equipment and experts, for comprehensive overhauls or gentle toe-dipping.

Sophistication and relaxation come naturally in and around Épi’s timeless, white-washed Bungalows. Each with a private outdoor patio and rain shower, guests are encouraged to relax and re-energise in complete comfort.
